Ligue 1 Preview: Lacazette seeks redemption as Lyon meet Marseille
Ligue 1 clubs enjoyed a relatively successful week in Europe. Not only did all six clubs avoid defeat in their respective competitions, France also overtook Portugal in the provisional Uefa coefficient for next term.
The focus now turns back to domestic competition, with Reims’ hosting of Paris Saint-Germain the highlight of Saturday’s fixtures before Lyon go to Marseille in the weekend’s feature game on Sunday night.
Here is Goal’s guide to all the action in round six...
The Champagne side could theoretically top the standings by the end of the weekend, though matters will be taken out of their hands on Friday night if Rennes defeat Lille. Otherwise, they will play host to Paris Saint-Germain on Saturday with the intention of leapfrogging the capital side.
The idea that they might win should perhaps not seem so farfetched either; on the opening day of last season they drew 2-2 at home against the same opponents and were very unlucky not to win. Indeed, they have only lost one of their last five home matches against the champions.
And they have started the season well. Wins over Bordeaux and Marseille in the first two rounds prove they mean business, while they showed tremendous character to comeback from two goals down to draw in Toulouse last weekend.
Look out in particular for young forwards Jordy Siebatcheu, 19, and Grejohn Kyei, 20, who have shown bags of talent in their appearances this term and have been earmarked as potential stars of the future. . This posts are taken from the original authorized page. Authorized by the original author.
